1970 was a good year for the Inverness Library. They had table to sit at so you could enjoy your time. The building is gone, but the memories remain. Being an army wife, when we moved , the first thing I looked for is the library.

Whenever I need help to reference various material, the staff at the Lakes Region Library is always there to help, particularly since I am not computer literate.

My first experience at the library was walking out the door with my mom lugging a big laundry basket full of books and I read every one!

As a young girl, my best friend and I would walk to the library. This was at least 1 ½ miles one way. There was a delicatessen halfway there and we would stop and buy a big dill pickle to eat on the way.

My earliest library memory was of the “Story hour” at the downtown public library. My mom was one of the readers and my dad did artwork for some. As I grew up, the bookmobile was my favorite. Coming to my subdivision and my school. Was so happy to find one coming to Bay City. The library is the best source of entertainment in tough economic times and is fun too!

I can remember the sound of the “beep” when you checked out books as a young child. My grandmother used to take me and help me find books. Now I see her helping my daughter and it’s wonderful to see.

Felt safe, met nice people, and could explore the world through my imagination. Cost free entertainment.

Library reader when young – led to a life time of reading. I remain addicted to books.

I grew up poor and looked forward each Saturday to visiting the library and taking a free loan book. Through this experience, I developed a passion for the Naval Battles of the Civil War. Ended up in Naval intelligence and continue to pursue my passions for books and have passed this on to my daughter, Elizabeth. Today is her birthday and for a present, she asked to be able to come to our book fair.
