I was born before my parents had a TV. A trip to the library meant seeing and learning about things I had never seen. My mom and I would walk uptown and I got to pick out a book to carry home. Some I liked so much I didn’t want to return them.

I remember riding my bike over two miles to the tiny Tosa library. I was about nine or ten. There weren’t many books, but I always found some to put into my basket for the ride home. Books were and still are my best friends. (and I’m a friend of the library)

My fondest memory is taking my two-year old daughter to Mother Goose story times at Lakes Region. I never knew how much she was really paying attention to the stories and songs until one night she requested “Twinkle, Twinkle” over and over again – AND even did the hand/finger movements with me. What we learned at the library makes our bedtime routine more special! Thank you!

I moved to Citrus Co. 14 yrs ago when one granddaughter (4 yrs old) Introduced me to the “pink” library and the weekly story hour where Mrs. Fisher motivated all the attendees to read, read, read. We did not miss a week for several years.

When I was Educational director for Alpha Gamma Chapter of ESA Sorority here in Crystal River in the late 60’s, I chose as my theme “Personality Unlimited” and the Library was an excellent source of resource material. Also, I recall when as a member of the junior Women’s Club in the 70”s, we sponsored Children’s Story Time as a project of the Fla Federation of Womens Clubs Education Dept. in the Library.

This one’s easy - When the staff referred to the Reference area as “My desk”. As a regular patron, I appreciate the recognition. While visiting, the desk was busy, but they were holding a request for me, so I told them, I’d be available for a while in the reference section. They told me that they would bring me my selection at my desk.

I got my first library card when I was 5 years old. Nothing was as thrilling as the experience of going to check out books when I wanted to, stay as long as I wanted and check out the books I wanted. The thrill continues only now I do it in the comfort of my home at my computer.
